Tools and Technologies

Over the course of the semester, we will explore various applications, methodologies, and content platforms. We will actively research and share relevant tools, technologies, and methods.

To streamline the workflow and organize tutorial workshops, the course will make use of an open source software for database filmmaking, Korsakow (available for both Mac and PC. Student discount available) and Shorthand (fully functional free trial available). We will provide an introduction to these tools, but I advise that you start exploring and familiarize yourself with the workflows.

Below is a partial list of tools and platforms that we are going to use and/or discuss. Please note that this list will expand as we collectively discover and use other tools.

1.- Korsakow (open source non-linear storytelling platform)
2.- Shorthand (digital storytelling, web-based platform)
3.- Prezi (space-oriented design and presentation tool. Educational/student accounts are free)
4.- Aurasma/HP Reveal (AR – Augmented Reality app)
VR and 360 video workflows including Occulus Go, Google Cardboard, Ricoh Theta, Wonda VR
5.- Google My Maps
6.- GoQR (QR code generator)
7.- SoundCloud (audio hosting/sharing platform)
8.- As a graduate student, you have free access to Adobe Creative Suite.
